Other additional charges:

Dog’s that are not groomed on a regular schedule of every 4-6weeks, especially if they are curly coated, can become matted very quickly. A knotty coat takes longer to groom and can dull our equipment. Therefore, additional charges are necessary.

  • Targeted de-matting– For dogs that have matts in areas but are not severe. An additional charge on top of the groom price of £5-£10
  • Matted coat shave off– Tightly matted fur is painful to dog to try to de-matt and the only humane option would be to shave the dog short and start fresh. An additional charge of £10-£20 depending on severity of the matting.
  • Aggressive or difficult behaved dogs

These additional charges are due to: the extra time taken to complete the groom, the cost of blade & shear sharpening (which dull as a result of shaving matted fur), the cost of extra product needed to condition the damaged coat & skin and the need of an additional person to help handle the dog.

Matted dogs

When a dog comes in matted,  we shall assess the coat to determine whether any matting can be brushed out safely and painlessly. If brushing out isn’t possible, especially if the matting is tight to the skin, then we may have no choice but to the shave the dog short.

We will always abide by the ‘Animal welfare act 2006’ which protects animals from any harm or suffering.

De-matting can be a long and painful process and we would never want to place any undue pain or stress on a dog. We want to make the grooming process as smooth and enjoyable as possible, to ensure your doggo has a good time.

We shall request the owner to sign a written matted consent form before we can shave down a seriously matted dog for insurance purposes.
